About REALTORS® Against Hunger

The Long Island Board of REALTORS® Inc. (LIBOR) is proud to mark the launch of the 11th Annual REALTORS® Against Hunger (RAH) campaign by sponsoring Island Harvest’s Annual Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign. LIBOR will be joining  Island Harvest, Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization, this holiday season to inform the community on the various ways to participate, donate, volunteer and help those in need during this crucial time. Hunger is a year-round issue, which unfortunately, does not take any holidays.

LIBOR will also be sponsoring Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens’ Food Pantry Services; a network of twenty Food Pantries which provide food assistance to many families and individuals in need throughout Brooklyn and Queens. Last year, their pantries helped distribute more than 1 million meals to over 115,000 people.

In addition to sponsoring these worthy programs, participating REALTOR® offices will be collecting donations of non perishable food items throughout Nassau Suffolk and Queens Counties in the months of November and December. This collection drive will support efforts to provide food to hundreds of local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other programs that feed the hungry. The holiday season can be especially difficult for our neighbors living with hunger and poverty. With more than 300,000 children and adults at risk of hunger each day on Long Island, the Long Island Board of REALTORS® is committed to helping provide critical food support to those in need and assisting our communities in the fight against hunger.

The REALTORS® Against Hunger campaign was mobilized in 2008 to fight hunger in our local communities. Through the RAH campaign, REALTORS® across Nassau, Suffolk and Queens have collected thousands of pounds of food these past ten years. With the astounding number of people seeking emergency assistance at food pantries, soup kitchens, and other organizations that provide food assistance, the need to find solutions to combat hunger is more important now than it has ever been.

The food drive program is an initiative created by the LIBOR Public Relations Committee as part of the ongoing “We’re More Than REALTORS®…” campaign; which supports numerous programs and charitable organizations that are making a positive difference in our communities. The Public Relations Committee greatly appreciates your support.

About the Turkey & Trimmings Campaign

Island Harvest’s Annual Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign runs between November 1st and December 31, 2018.  There are many ways to get involved in this worthy program, from donating non-perishable food items, frozen turkeys or gift cards, to volunteering or hosting a food drive; your contribution of food and funds will ensure that our neighbors are able to enjoy the warmth of a holiday meal.

Additionally, Stop & Shop, King Kullen and Shop Rite customers can do their part in helping those Long Islanders in need, by purchasing a pre-packaged bag of all the trimmings necessary to complement a traditional holiday dinner. To participate in the Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign simply pick up a pre-packaged bag of trimmings at any of these Long Island super markets, pay for it at the register and drop the bag in the collection box on your way out.  Our continued participation in this program provides the opportunity for our members to help less fortunate families enjoy special holiday meals and be able to count on regular meals throughout the holiday season.

LIBOR is honored to join Island Harvest to inform and inspire our community to help fight hunger not only this holiday season, but year round.
